The Core i7-5960X is one heck of a chip, and it's certainly not one that any power user would be sad to see in his or her rig. The Core i7-5960X Extreme Edition still technically uses a 2,011-pin socket, but Intel is calling the latest version "LGA 2011 version 3," or "2011-3," and the company says you can't pair older LGA 2011 chips with the new socket, or vice versa.
